Do you know how to say storm in Japanese?

Meaning:

Pronunciation:

This word has three syllables: "a-ra-shi." The "a" sound in the first and the second syllables is the same, and it should sound like "a" as in father. The last syllable "shi" is similar to "shi" in shift. Try to articulate the first vowel "a" and make the last vowel "i" short. Put a slight stress on the first vowel "a."

Tips:

Now let's make a complete sentence using this word. The following two sentences have the same meaning, but use the the second one when you are speaking to people senior to you.

1) Sakuya wa arashi datta.
さくやはあらしだった。
昨夜は嵐だった。
(It stormed last night.

2) Sakuya wa arashi deshita. (formal)
さくやはあらしでした。
昨夜は嵐でした。
(It stormed last night.)

* Note that "sakuya(昨夜)" means last night.
